Tarkwa Senior High School was one of the Ghana Educational Trust Schools built by the Government of Ghana in the early sixties under the Accelerated Development Plan for Education when Ghana attained independence under Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.The foundation stone of the school was laid in January 1961 after a site had been acquired from the Amalgamated Banket Area (A.B.A.) Mining, now Tarkwa Goldfelds Limited. Constructional works on the school was awarded to Messers Ansah Eshun and Company, who enjoying the fullest support and co-operation of Mr. E. K. Dadson, then a Member of Parliament for Tarkwa, and a Parliamentary Secretary responsible for the offce of the Prime Minister, worked within record time to enable the school to open in 1961.
