Prempeh College

Brief Profile

Prempeh College is boarding school located in Sofoline a suburb of Kumasi (the Ashanti regional capital), Ashanti, founded in 1949 by by the then Gold Coast government in collaboration with the Methodist and Presbyterian Missionaries and the Ashanti Royal Kingdom. Prempeh College was originally meant to cater to the educational needs of Kumasi Metropolis and Ashanti. It is the first all-boys senior high school in Ashanti. The school is modelled on Eton College in England. It is an all-boys boarding College with both current and past students affectionately called as Amanfoɔ (The Unknown), depicting the sense of nationalism imbued in the pioneering students in the original motto of the College: "Oman Pa fapem ne Obrapa" which translates as 'Integrity makes a good Nation'. The original motto was amended to Suban Ne Nimdeɛ meaning Character and Knowledge in 1964. Prempeh College is an archrival to Opoku Ware School. In 1949, 50 boys from Mfantsipim School and their headmaster, Rev. Sidney N. Pearson commenced the college.

Prempeh College was established to be the preferred educational centre catering to the needs of the middle and northern sectors of Ghana.

To provide committed service and the relevant inputs that will enhance teaching and learning, ensure compliance of school rules and regulations by students and mould the character of students in achieving the vision of the College.
