Hwidiem Senior High School

Brief Profile

The current Hwidiem Senior High School started as a Male Teacher Training College in 1967. It ran a four-year Teacher's Certificate programme. The first batch admitted from successful middle school students numbered 60.

The classrooms and the dormitory were in a storey building situated at the centre of the Town. It was provided by the then Chief of Hwidiem by name Nana Owusu Ababio (Chief Nyantakyi).

The first Principal was called Mr. Robert A. Afedzi. On September 28, 1973, Hwidiem Senior High School was born alongside the Training College, Finally in 1975, the last batch of Hwidiem Training College students were sent to join those at Berekum Training College and the Secondary School system attained her full status.

The first Headmaster of the newly born Hwidiem Secondary School was Mr. E.S Lartey. The school was moved to its present site as the school grew with one storey dormitory, a science laboratory, a four unit classroom block serving as a girls' dormitory and the administration and a one 12-unit storey classroom block.

In 2003, the school was selected as one of the Model schools in Ghana. In 2006 the Model school structures were handed over to the school, it was upgraded to a grade 'A' school.
